my crafty christmas countdown: day 3 (+ a gift tutorial)

So, these paper balls have been around for a while.  But what I love that's different about these is that the first set is made with recycled Christmas cards instead of patterned papers, and the second set includes different shapes (like squares) for a different look as well as some photos added to the flat sides.  Very cute and clever twists on an old favorite.  CLICK HERE to get the how-to for the recycled card ornaments, and CLICK HERE for some downloadable templates for the photo ornaments.  Yep.  Martha.

I also thought I'd share a little how-to for this chipboard button necklace.  My daughters and I made one each for them and for some neighbor friends.

I first covered the Jenni Bowlin buttons in Mod Podge on both sides.  While they were drying, I cut two 8 inch strands of steel chain with my wire cutters for each necklace.  Once the buttons were dry, I used my paper piercer to punch small holes in the sides of each button.  I then attached the buttons and gem links in the order seen on the necklace using jump rings and needle nose pliers.  I finished each necklace off with a jump ring and claw clasp at the ends of the chains.  Each one took me about 15 to 20 minutes.  Easy peasy and super cute!
