Happy NSD!

In honor of this fabulous hobby, today is National Scrapbooking Day. I hope you take some time to create, tell a story, or preserve a memory today. To celebrate I thought I'd share a layout and a tip with you.
This page is inspired by a design by the fabulous Emilie Ahern. The team at The Scrap Review is hosting a Round Robin Sketch Game. Emilie created sketches out of original projects by each reporter (in some cases she even made free digital templates) and had another reporter lift each sketch. It was so fun to see everyone's interpretation of the sketches...pop over, take a peek, and pick up some free sketches and templates HERE.

To create the small scalloped circle accent on this page I covered a journaling brush with patterned paper using a clipping mask, and then added a label to complete it. Check out how easy it is to cover brushes with paper using a clipping mask. (Click on any image to see it enlarged.)

In Photoshop open the brush you would like to use. I used a journaling brush from the "Write It Down" kit by Sande Krieger at 2 peas.

Next, open the paper you'd like to cover the brush with (I used one from Sande Krieger's "Birthday Cake" kit), drag it onto your canvas so that it is over the brush in your layers pallette. Right click on the paper layer in your pallette and select "create clipping mask".

Voila! Now your paper is the shape of your brush. I finished off the accent by adding a label to the center from Sande's "Note to Self" kit. For ease of use, you can merge the layers together.
